Before buying a cat
A Cat is not only a pleasant Companion or a nice playmate, he/she also has Rights, which have to be taken into consideration. Living with any animal also demands responsibility!
Whoever just decides ad hoc to get a Cat one day, will also happily part with it the next day and deliver it at the nearest Animal Asylum. With these questions it might be of some help for you to make the right decision.

Do you live in rented Accommodation? Does your landlord allow you to keep Cats ?
Are all members of your family free of Allergies against Cats/Dogs. If you have an Allergy of any kind, you should perhaps make a Test beforehand
You should certainly consider, which costs are involved, when taking in a Cat or buying a Pedigree Cat (Veterinary, Vaccinations, food, Catlitter, carrier, scratch-tree etc.)
Did you contemplate on getting a Cat for a long while or did you just spontaneously decide to get one? PLEASE do consider very seriously all consequences a Cat may involve you in.Who looks after the Cat, which lives 15 to 20 years (preparing their favourite foods, cleaning their dishes and of course, who cleans the litter trays etc. etc.)
Do you go to work? Are you out of the house all day, possibly more than 8 hours. In this case it would be almost obligatory to keep two Cats.
Could you possibly live with it, if your Cats "decorate" your furniture with scratch marks? What about Cats hairs on your Couch, Carpets or clothes ? How about the mess around the Cats plates ( some are messy eaters), so it belongs to daily routine to clean up such a mess ? Also, when they are young and playful, things do sometimes get broken.
Who looks after your Cat when you go on Holiday?
Please think again, that a Cat can live up to 20 years of age. He/she isn`t going to stay the sweet little kitten, that you bought many moons ago, he/she can also become ill, gets weaker with age or a possibly get a chronical illness.
Would you honestly be prepared to stay loyal and faithful to your Cat you have shared so many nice times with, if this would occur? Would you be prepared than to give even more love and attention, which can be most time absorbing, apart from phenomenal Vets bills?

Remember always: "you are responsible all your life, for what you have taken for granted"
